Dwarkadas J. Sanghvi College of Engineering started the course in Mechanical Engineering, in 2011 with the intake of 60. In the very next year, it was increased to 120. In the year 2011, Department started M.E. Program in Manufacturing System Engineering with the intake of 18 students. Again in subsequent year Department has started PhD Programme with the intake of 10.

Being the newest department in the college our students are all set to face the corporate industry arena. We at mechanical engineering department with the help of management and principal are focusing on enabling the students to build their technical as well as professional skills to be successful in today’s competitive era.

Mechanical Department is also the mentor department for R.A.S (ROBOTICS AND AUTOMATION SOCIETY). This is the platform for developing not only the technical skills of the students, but also developing their management & organization capabilities by way of organizing and managing industrial tours, technical seminars, workshops etc.

PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

  1. To prepare students with a sound engineering knowledge and a multi-disciplinary approach.
  2. To enable students, to innovate, design and develop engineering systems using modern engineering practices and tools.
  3. To motivate students, to interact with industry and professional bodies and participate in various professional activities.
  4. To develop logical approach, analytical thinking and problem solving capabilities in students & facilitate them to undertake research/project work.
  5. To impart training in soft skills and value education. 

 

PROGRAM SPECIFIC OUTCOMES (PSO)

  1. Students will acquire analytical and application skills, specifically in areas of mechanical design, thermal engineering and manufacturing systems.
  2. Students will be able to explore various methodologies & software and select appropriate process to bring about improvements.
  3. Students will acquire soft skills, value education and competency in pursing higher studies and finally lead a professional career while working in a global environment.
  4. Students will be exposed to green technology and develop inter-disciplinary skills in mechanical systems.

Department has well equipped, state of art laboratories for conduct of practicals in various subjects. All the practical sessions are conducted as per recommendations of University of Mumbai. All the laboratories are fully air-conditioned, with sufficient natural light, lab records, lab manuals, journals etc.

Relevant softwares are installed on all the desktops in laboratories. Computers, laptops, printers, scanners, internet and intranet facilities are maintained by in-house engineers working for AMC of these equipments.
 
Students and faculty have easy access to all the facilities in the department throughout the year.

Competitions

Aspiring to mould competent engineers of tomorrow, Dwarkadas J. Sanghvi College of Engineering, Mumbai, backed by SVKM have always motivated their students to exhibit proficiency by achieving accolades in national and international competitions.

 

There are 6 diligent teams of students from the Mechanical and Production Engineering departments under the SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) collegiate club that encourage competitiveness in automotive engineering. Furthermore, there are two more teams are in the making, DJS Phoenix and DJS Tachyon.

 

By creating a competitive ambience exclusively suited for the development of the students and not only offering opportunities but inspiring them to push their limits, DJSCE has carved a niche for itself. Under the guidance of the faculty and the Principal Dr. Hari Vasudevan, head of department Dr. K. N. Vijayakumar, SAE Faculty advisor Prof. Meeta Gandhi and the SAE co-ordinator Prof. Rajnarayan Yadav, the future engineers of the institute are set to make a difference to the society.

 

1. Participated in Enduro Student India (ESI) competition held at Coimbatore from 5th to 9th January 2017.

Achievements

-Secured ranked 3rd in Mumbai,

-Secured first runner up for sales event and

-Secured second position in Sales Presentation

 

2. Participated in Formula Bharat at Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore from January 26th-29th 2017. 

Achievements

-Achieved overall rank of 6 out of 58 teams.

-Awarded the best designed Formula style Race Car.

 

3. Participated in SAE Aero Competition at Texas, USA from 10th March to 12th March 2017.

Achievements

-Achieved fourth position overall,

-Secured first position in design report,

-Secured fourth position in flight round and

-Secured 12th position in technical oral presentation.

 

4. Participated in National Kart Racing Championship held at Kolhapur district of Maharashtra from 29th September to 2nd October, 2016.

 

5. Participated in Go Kart Design Challenge at Coimbatore from 14th – 19th January 2017

Achievements

-Secured the 5th rank overall,

-Secured first position in skid pad,

-Secured first runner up in auto cross,

-Secured first runner up in design event and

-Secured first runner up in business plan challenge.

 

6. Participated in Indian Karting Championship at Pune from 26th – 29th January 2017.

Achievements

-Secured 5th rank overall,

-Achieved best CAE rank for their go kart.

 

7. Participated in Electric Solar Vehicle Championship (ISIE-ESVC2016-17) scheduled from 28th March to 2nd April 2017 at Bhimavaram, Andhra Pradesh which is Asia’s biggest solar vehicle design and manufacturing event.

Achievements

-Secured 22nd position overall among 86 teams from all over India,

-Secured 11th position in business plan event,

-Secured 15th position in cross pad and

-Secured 18th position in Innovation.

 

8. An inter-collegiate project competition “DJ Nirmiti- Igniting Manufacturing Renaissance” was organized on 21st -22nd March, 2017, by ISME student chapter, wherein undergraduate students have showcase their project work and other technical skills.

 

9. Participated in BAJA Student India – National Level Off-road Racing Competition organized by Delta Inc. and sanctioned by FMSCI. It was held at the Buddh International Circuit, NOIDA in January 2016.

 

10. Participated in Robocon India 2015 held by MIT, Pune from 3rd March to 7th March. The Asia-Pacific Robot Contest (ABU Robocon) is an Asian Oceanian College robot competition in which a robot or a set of robots are given a task to complete within a given time frame. The theme for year 2015 was “ROBOMINTON: BADMINTON ROBO-GAME”.

 

11. Participated in SAE International AERO Design East – International level RC Aircraft design competition organized by SAE International. It was held in Fort Worth, Texas, USA in March 2016.

Achievements

-Secured 3rd Position Oral Presentation (Regular Class)

 

12. Participated in Formula Student India- National level Race car Design competition organized by Delta Inc. and sanctioned by FMSCI. It was held at the Buddh International Circuit, Noida in January 2016.

Achievements

-Cost Event- 2nd position,

-Design Event- 4th position,

-Overall- 6th position.

 

13. A competition on Clay Car modelling was organized on 24th August, 2015. It was judged by Prof. E. Narayanan, Mentor, Production Dept.

 

14. Seminar-cum-Project Competition-“Make in India: Igniting manufacturing Renaissance” was held on 31st March 2016 and 1st April 2016 under the aegis of ISME Mumbai chapter, which exhibited technical projects of students B. E, M. E. and Ph D programmes.

 

15. Participated in “ROBOCON 2016” held in pune organized by Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU).

 

16. Participated in Formula Student Germany an International Race Car Design Competition conducted by SAE International in July – August 2014 at Hockenheimring, Germany.

 

17. Participated in BAJA Student India – National Level Off-road Racing Competition conducted by SAE India in collaboration with TATA Motors in January 2015.

 

18 DJS Skylark Team represented college on an international level by participating in the SAE Aero Design East competition which was held at Lakeland, Florida from 13th March to 15th March 2015 and it stood 17th worldwide and 2nd in India.

 

19. Seminar-cum-Project Competition "Expanding Horizons in Manufacturing Sector"

Date: 16th, 17th March, 2015, organized by ISME (Jointly organized by Production & Mechanical Department).

Workshops

Various workshop are organized by the department throughout the year where the experts from the industries and other organizations guide the young talent.

 

1. One day workshop on “3D Printing” was conducted in behalf of ISME student chapter by M/s Imaginarium, Mumbai on 11th February 2017. It was a total hands on experience on design and printing in 3D Printing, which is an important tool in Rapid Prototyping Technology.

 

2. The students of the mechanical and production engineering department were taken on a two day workshop to L&T Corporate Technology & Engineering Academy, Madh on 22-23rd October 2016, organized by the ISME student chapter.

 

3. A three day work shop was conducted on behalf of RAS student chapter on the topic PLC Scada (industrial automation) on 13th, 14th and 20th of Aug 2016 by Prolific PVT LTD.

 

4. Two day workshop on “Rapid Prototyping Tool-3D Printing” was conducted at our college by M/s Imaginarium, Mumbai on 16th and 17th March 2016.

 

5. 3D Printing Workshop by 3D-Ware on 27th and 28th February 2015. The workshop was an interactive session between the highly knowledgeable 3D-Ware professionals and the undergraduate students from Mechanical and Production departments. It was concluded by hands on experience session with the 3D printers which helped students to learn the technique of 3D printing.

 

6. Workshop on assembly and disassembly of air-conditioner 9th August’2014.

 

7. Workshop on assembly and working of Refrigerators by M/s Himalaya Cool Services on 9th February 2015. The Workshop was conducted by industry professionals with more than 15 years of experience. It included live demonstration of the assembly and working of a domestic refrigerator. The speakers also showed the working of an industry-level compressor assembly.

Industrial Visits

1. Students of Second year students visited M/s. Kela Industries, Nasik in the month of September, 2016 to have a practical knowledge on various manufacturing processes/operations.

 

2. Students of Third Year Mechanical Engineering visited M/s Imaginarium, Andheri (E) on 5th and 6th October 2015.

 

3. Students of Second Year Mechanical Engineering have visited M/s Kela Industries Nasike on 18th March 2016

 

4. Students of III semester Mechanical Engineering were given exposure to the manufacture of LPG cylinder at M/s Kela Industries Nasik on 4th August 2014.

 

5. Students of Third Year Mechanical Engineering were provided with the opportunity to visit Reliance Thermal Power Plant Dahanu on 23rd and 24th February 2015.

 

6. Students of Final Year Mechanical Engineering visited M/s BEST, Dadar on 5th March 2015

 

7. Students of Second Year Mechanical Engineering visited M/s Volkswagen India Ltd. Pune on 6th and 9th April 2015.

Guest Lectures

Various guest lectures are organized by the department throughout the year where the experts from the industries and other organizations guide the young talent.

 

1. An invited talk was organized for TE Mechanical students by Team RAS on Industrial Mechatronics by V. A. Kawshik, Consultatnt in FESTO.  (13th feb, 2017)

 

2. An invited talk was organised by ISHRAE on ‘Refrigeration & Airconditioning’ by Prof. Avinash G. Shaligram on 4th March 2017.

 

3. An invited talk on Vehicle Dynamics by Dr. Shaktivel, Associate Professor, VIT University, Vellore by SAE on 28th January 2017.

 

4. An invited talk on Jet Propulsion Engines by Mr. F. A. Shaikh (Assistant general manager in Technical services, Air India) on 4th February 2017.

 

5. An invited talk on “Project Based Learning” on 4th February, 2016 by Dr. Sandeep Inamdar (Managing Trustee, Vishwaniketan).

 

6. An invited talk on “Introduction to Oil, Gas and Power Sector” on 22nd March, 2016 by Mr Vasant Dinkar Mestry (Chairman and MD, Suvidya Institute of Technology).

 

 

7. A guest lecture on “ERP applications” by Mr Sachin Dharap of M/s Ingenia polymers was conducted on 15th September 2015.

 

8. Mr Mukesh Jain, Pune, an Ex-Microsoft analyst delivered a guest lecture on “Business Analytics” on 1st February 2016 for the benefit of students of mechanical and production engineering students.

 

9. A guest lecture was conducted on the topic “REVERSE ENGINEERING” by Solid Vision M/s, Mumbai on 3rd and 4th of March 2016 which imparted a basic idea about Reverse engineering and 3D printing.

 

10. Talk on “3D printing, a New Tool to Unlock Fragile Ideas” on 19th September, 2014 by Dr. Guruprasad Rao (Director-Technology & Operations at Imaginarium India Pvt Ltd,) Research Scholar at Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay.

 

11. An invited talk on “Engineering Capabilities in Process Equipment Management” by Mr Alex Tellis of M/s Godrej and Boyce Ltd. Vikhroli was conducted on 4th February 2015.

 

12. A Guest lecture was held on “Jet Propulsion Engine” by Mr F A Shaikh of Air India on 2nd March 2015.

 

13. Product Design and Management (Technical Lecture Series) by L & T personnel on 29th and 30th January 2015. This lecture series was conducted for undergraduate students from three branches of engineering, namely mechanical, production and electronics. The lectures are helpful to students as it introduced them to the concept of designing and managing a product by explaining the measures that need to be taken before and after designing the parts. It also provided the students with a chance to get hands on experience with specialized L&T products.

 

14. An invited talk on ‘Total Quality Management” by Mr K B Bharati (Director, QCFI India) focussed on improvement of quality and implementation of Total Quality Management Concepts in Indian Manufacturing Industry.

 

15. An invited talk on ‘Made in India from an Idea to Reality’ by Dr B Ravi Professor IIT Bombay on 23rd September 2014 emphasized the use of E Foundry and ORTHOCAD.

 

16. An Invited talk on “Campus to Corporate” by our alumnus Mr Darshit Shah was conducted on 11th February 2015.

 

17. Seminar on Career Opportunities Abroad September’ 2014 by Ms. Purvi Tantia from Ace Consultancy.

 

18. An Invited talk on “Solar energy” by Ankit Barasia, Director-Solar Inertia was conducted on 11th February 2015.

 

19. A Guest lecture was held on “Piping” by M/s Suvidya Institute of Technology, Santacruz on 13th March 2015.

Value Added Programs

Various value added programs are conducted by the department throughout the year where the experts from the industries and other organizations guide the young talent.

 

1. A two days hands on training on behalf of RAS student chapter was conducted for the batch of 30 students on Altium Designer Tool by Mr. Shreyas on 4th and 5th of Jan 2017.

 

2. Program conducted on Solid Works from July 2016 to November 2016 in collaboration with CADD centres, Andheri with 22 student participation.

 

3. SAE organised a forty hour training program on MATLAB applications in Mechanical Engineering during February 2017. Dr. Suhas Deshmukh, Director, IoT Mechatronics Pvt Ltd was the trainer for the program.

 

4. Solid Works Modelling Software Training conducted between July 2015 and December 2015 in premises of Mechanical Engineering Department, by CADD Centre Mumbai.

 

5. German Language classes are being conducted in the premises of Mechanical Engineering Department, by Mrs. Ujwal Anil, a language consultant. The classes commenced in January 2016 and ended by July 2016.

 

6. Value added course on MATLAB was conducted from October 2015 to November 2015 in the college.

 

7. An event named ‘Car Rally for the Blind’ was conducted on 24th January, 2016. The tagline of the rally was You Drive-We Navigate wherein the main purpose was the welfare of the visually impaired and education for the under-privileged children.

 

8. Solid Works Modelling Software Training conducted between August 2014 and December 2014 in premises of Mechanical Engineering Department, by CADD Centre Mumbai.

 

9. German Language classes conducted between January 2015 and May 2015 in the premises of

Mechanical Engineering Department, by Mrs. Ujwal Anil a language consultant.

 

10. ISO/TS 16949 Automotive Standards Value Added Programme was conducted on September 12 to September 14, 2014 by Mr. J. Sathe wherein he inculcated and explained the role
