Dwarkadas J. Sanghvi College of Engineering started the course in Mechanical Engineering, in 2011 with the intake of 60. In the very next year, it was increased to 120. In the year 2011, Department started M.E. Program in Manufacturing System Engineering with the intake of 18 students. Again in subsequent year Department has started PhD Programme with the intake of 10.

Being the newest department in the college our students are all set to face the corporate industry arena. We at mechanical engineering department with the help of management and principal are focusing on enabling the students to build their technical as well as professional skills to be successful in today’s competitive era.

It is proud to be primarily associated with 3 major student chapters.
1. S.A.E. (SOCIETY OF AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEERS)
2. I.S.H.R.A.E. (INDIAN SOCIETY OF HEATING REFRIGERATION AND AIR CONDITIONING ENGINEERS)  
3. I.S.M.E. (INDIAN SOCIETY OF MAUFACTURING ENGINEERS)

Mechanical Department is also the mentor department for R.A.S (ROBOTICS AND AUTOMATION SOCIETY). This is the platform for developing not only the technical skills of the students, but also developing their management & organization capabilities by way of organizing and managing industrial tours, technical seminars, workshops etc.

PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

  1. To prepare students with a sound engineering knowledge and a multi-disciplinary approach.
  2. To enable students, to innovate, design and develop engineering systems using modern engineering practices and tools.
  3. To motivate students, to interact with industry and professional bodies and participate in various activities.
  4. To facilitate students, to undertake research/project work.
  5. To develop logical approach, analytical thinking and problem solving capabilities in students.
  6. To impart training in soft skills and value education.

 

PROGRAM SPECIFIC OUTCOMES (PSO)

  1. Students will acquire analytical and application skills, specifically in areas of mechanical design, thermal engineering and manufacturing systems.
  2. Students will be able to explore various methodologies & software and select appropriate process to bring about improvements.
  3. Students will acquire soft skills, value education and competency in selecting and pursing higher studies.
  4. Students will be exposed to green technology and develop inter-disciplinary skills in mechanical systems.
  5. Students will be able to pursue a successful professional career, while working in a global environment.

Department has well equipped, state of art laboratories for conduct of practicals in various subjects. All the practical sessions are conducted as per recommendations of University of Mumbai. All the laboratories are fully air-conditioned, with sufficient natural light, lab records, lab manuals, journals etc.

Relevant softwares are installed on all the desktops in laboratories. Computers, laptops, printers, scanners, internet and intranet facilities are maintained by in-house engineers working for AMC of these equipments.
 
Students and faculty have easy access to all the facilities in the department throughout the year.

1) SAE BAJA India -
 National Level Off-road Racing Competition conducted by SAE India in collaboration with Mahindra & Mahindra.

International Race Car Design Competition conducted by SAE International
Students have a hands-on experience on designing and manufacturing off-road as well as racing vehicles due to the initiatives taken by student members of SAE to participate in SAE BAJA India and Formula Student Germany July 2014

Current and Future Activities

The ‘Mechanical Engineering’ department hosts various student chapters such as SAE – India, ISHRAE, Robotics and Automation Society, and ISME. The students from mechanical engineering department participate in various competitions such as SUPRA and BAJA. As a part of these competitions the students design and fabricate an automotive vehicle under the guidance of experienced faculty at the institute.  

The department also organizes numerous workshops and value added courses for the students. Some of the workshops and courses conducted in the academic year of 2013-14 are listed as follow:

In addition to the above activities, the department also organises visits to industries, and research centers, and invited talks from industry experts.
